Lincoln’s first casino seeks workers of varying skill sets

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln’s first casino set out to fill its ranks at a job fair structured to fit the needs of the company.

The WarHorse Casino opened the doors of the Cornhusker Mariott on Saturday to the public for both curious and capable job lookers for a chance to be part of a monumental moment in Nebraska history.

While games of chance like Pull Tab, Powerball and others have been available to the public for some time this is the first casino building for the capital city.

The change comes from a ballot vote from earlier this year signed by Governor Pete Ricketts that allowed games of chance and open casino gambling in Nebraska.

With opening day closely approaching director of marketing Pete Graziano said that WarHorse is looking to hire around 200 “excited and personable” individuals to help get the casino of the group.

“There is a role for you here and we just need to help you find what it is,” Graziano said. “We hear from guests in the industry all the time that what makes their casino visits fun and entertaining is the service experience that they have.”

From slots to security, the company representatives spoke with potential candidates leading them from one room to another in the basement of the Marriott learning their skill sets and finding the best position for them to apply for.

Those who stood out in these interviews had the chance to be offered the job on the spot.

For some locals, the idea of working at a casino may be daunting, with many not understanding the daily routine of a 24/7 casino, but Graziano said that there is plenty of on-hand training to help prepare new hires.

“There’s job video previews so [candidates] can get an idea of what their day might look like if they were a slot attendant or a surveillance tech,” he said. “So there are a lot of resources for them to learn about work in the casino.”

Graziano said that one of the biggest perks of the job is the day one benefits that future employees will be able to tap into once the casino’s doors are open to the public.

Even if you missed out on today’s job fair there is still another chance to get in on the gamble on Tuesday, September 6 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Cornhusker Marriott or on their website.

For those who are more interested in spending money at the casino, doors are expected to be open to the public late next month with horse race betting and over 400 slot machines to choose from.
